It is crazy to think that I am already half-way through college and I will begin my journey as a junior in just one short month. Choosing to go to college at USAO has been one of the best decisions of my entire life. I know with all of my heart that there is no better major for me than Early Childhood and Elementary Education, which will lead me to having my own classroom one day and teaching the future minds of our nation. My plans include graduating in the Spring of 2015 and then finding a secure job at a school in Oklahoma, hopefully teaching either kindergarten or first grade. I have always had a strong pull towards young children and influencing them in a positive way, but I never realized just how strong that force was until I decided to commit my life to it during my senior year of high school and my mind has not wavered since. Even just working in a daycare now has made my decision even more prominent and I am reminded everyday of why I love doing what I do.
My future classroom will be one of safety and security, a place where students can feel their most comfortable if they cannot find that somewhere else. It will be an escape for students to have fun and, most importantly, learn concepts that they will use the rest of their lives. I cannot wait to have my own classroom one day. My ideas for how it will be have been influenced by many benefactors, the internet being one.
The internet has helped me greatly already in my education and I know it will help me even more when I finally graduate. One of the biggest influences is Pinterest, a wonderful website where I can go to looking for ideas of lessons and activities to do with students that they will find both fun and informative. I follow many teachers on there, who always have exciting new things to share, whether it be lessons, items for the classroom, bulletin boards, or even just classroom set up ideas. Every time I see something education related, I get this excited feeling in my stomach as I repin it to my "Future Teacher" board. Pinterest also leads me to other teachers' blogs, with many helpful items that I have even used in my education as a college student. Using this website and the internet as a whole has helped me to confirm my dreams of becoming an elementary school teacher and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store for me.
